WEIRD RALLIES
Many people now think that mental fitness is one of the most important issues in the next election. (1,2). This article is not about his many memory problems, gaffes, or his famous word salad. It is about the deterioration of his critical thinking skills. Recently, Trump has been sounding pretty crazy. He has been spending a lot of time on a fake news story about immigrants eating pets. And at a recent rally, he spent a long time just dancing to music, including some gay music by the village people. He included a long discussion about Arnold Palmer's penis (3). Trump has also reportedly been telling this story about Arnold Palmer since 4 years ago (4). He followed up by telling the crowd that they had to send a crude message to Ms. Harris: “We can’t stand you; you’re a shit vice president.”. Arnold Palmer’s daughter did not appreciate Trump's comments about her father (4). However, it's not any more accurate to say that Donald Trump just went crazy than it is to say that Harris just turned black.
PROFESSIONAL CONCERN
In 2017, there were already discussions about Trump's mental fitness (6, 7). Psychiatrist Bandy X. Lee edited the 2017 book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump," in which 27 psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health experts raised their concerns about Trump’s mental well-being. After Trump's supporters attacked the capital, the same psychiatrist spoke out again about the shared psychosis of Trump and his supporters (8). More than 230 doctors and health professionals have published a letter saying that Trump is too mentally unstable to be president (8b, 8c)..
WEIRD SCIENCE
In 2019, Trump gave a 4th of July speech where he talked about Washington's army taking control of the airports during the Revolutionary War. This was gleefully reported by Canadian and British news media that thought this was quite funny. ( 9,10,11). He also said that the continental army rammed the ramparts. He did not explain if they rammed them with a tank or bulldozer. Nobody in the crowd noticed that he mixed up the Revolutionary War with the War of 1812. His supporters gave him a standing ovation for that speech. By 2020, he suggested that the chief scientist investigate injecting disinfectant to kill the virus (12, 13). He has other very strange ideas about medicine. He claims that kids are getting transgender operations in schools without parents consent (22D). He made this claim again on the Joe Rogan show (22D). Trump’s claim is false. There is no evidence that US schools have sent children into gender-affirming surgeries without their parents knowing or performed gender-affirming surgeries on site; Trump’s own presidential campaign could not provide a single example of this ever happening.On numerous occasions, Trump has ranted about windmills killing the birds (14, 15, 16). He has even claimed that windmills are killing the whales in the ocean (17). In an Iowa speech, he went on a rant about water-killing magnets (18). This was triggered by discussions about electromagnetic catapults on ships (19, 20). In Nevada, he went on a similar rant to show how much he knows about electric boats (21 ). Trump told the story again to prove that he is not incoherent(22).. A number of people have had surveys or polls to decide the dumbest things that Trump has said (22b). Here is an update on the first one (22c).
CULINARY CRAZINESS
Trump has these weird rants about Hanible Lector. (23,24). This apparently is related to his idea that some immigrants might be cannibals. Now the British press is enjoying reporting Trump's stories about immigrants eating pets. (25,26,27) .
HIS TESTS
Trump has begun attacking Harris for her low intelligence. She did pass the toughest bar exam in America to be a lawyer. Of course Trump has pointed out that she did not pass it the first time. Of course, lots of famous people have not passed the bar exam the first time (including Franklin Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, Jr.) because they were not well prepared the first time but then passed it the second time. But Trump never went to graduate school for anything. He claimed that he graduated at the top of his undergraduate class. But U. Penn released records showing that he was not in the top 15% of his class. Trump has threatened to sue anyone who releases his college grades or SAT scores. (28). But Trump has claimed that he is a stable genius. One part of his proof is that he claims he aced the MOCA test (29, 30, 31, 32) . That is the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test. It is given to senior citizens to test for dementia. The test includes being able to identify animals from their pictures. There is no actual proof that Trump passed it. And even passing it only shows that a person probably does not have dementia. But passing it does not show that anyone has a high IQ. Bragging about acing that test demonstrates that he is not currently at a very high IQ level. This stuff is not funny until you think about him being president of the United States.
